Easy Green Tips for the New Year!

Start the new decade off with your green foot forward!  Here are some easy green tips to green your life in 2010!

Fruits and VegetablesEat low on the food chain – Eating grains and vegetables uses significantly less energy and natural resources than that of a meat-based diet.  According to the British world hunger group VegFam, a 10-acre farm could support 60 people if they grew soybeans; 24 people if they grew wheat; 10 growing corn -- and only two if they used the land to raise cattle.  Eating vegetarian even once or twice a week can have a huge impact.  When you do choose meat, try to select local, organic and grass fed beef, pork or poultry.

Reusable BagUse Eco-friendly Shopping Bags – Did you know that well over a billion single-use plastic bags are given out for free each day?   Stop the plastic madness!  Carry along a reusable bag while going shopping.  Pick up this Natural Built Home reusable bag on your next visit.  Some cities are considering a bag tax and some stores are already charging for their disposable bags.  Get in the habit now and save some green while going green!

Turn Off Your Phantom Loads – Many appliances and electronics continue to draw a small amount of power when they are switched off.  These "phantom" loads occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as VCRs, televisions, stereos, computers, and kitchen appliances.  Studies estimate on average that phantom loads make up 10% of your total energy consumption!  To stop the loss, unplug the appliance or use a power strip to cut all power to the appliance or electronic device when it is not in use.

New Year, New Products!

AFM Naturals

AFM Safecoat Naturals Paint – This revolutionary plant-oil-based paint is entirely sourced from natural earth based plant and mineral components.  Safecoat Naturals Paints are the first truly practical paints incorporating plant-based chemistry.  Like the bark on a tree, they create a breathable layer inspired by Mother Nature herself.  Completely petroleum-free, Safecoat Naturals paints are fully biodegradable, emit no toxins and contain no harmful solvents, preservatives, dryers or other irritants that can contribute to poor indoor air quality or endanger your health.

Safecoat Naturals have all the benefits typical of latex paints (like soap and water cleanup) with the performance and durability of oil-based paints.  Like oil-based paints, Safecoat Naturals paint flows out smoothly from the paint brush, and naturally flattens out once applied to the wall.

Safecoat Naturals are available in unlimited color possibilities. Choose a color from one of our palettes, or bring in a color for us to custom match!
