DESCRIPTION: Safecoat Caulking Compound is a
not-toxic, water-based, elastic emulsion type caulking compound
designed to replace oil caulk and putty for windows, cracks and
general maintenance work. It will not dry out or crack and does
not release any solvents or obnoxious odors.
Safecoat Caulking
Compound provides a water resistant, flexible, easy to install,
non sag sealant with excellent initial and permanent adhesion. As
a ready-to-use, pigmented elastomer, Safecoat Caulking Compound
has thixotropic properties which enable the application to be made
with ease with no stringiness and yet maintains flexibility and
toughness with rapid drying characteristics. It may be applied to
a variety of substrates and has high durability. Resin rich
formula affords maximum bond strength.
USE ON: Use for caulking windows,
sealing cracks, filling holes, door perimeters, walls and
woodwork, air duct openings, venting and plumbing areas, siding
openings and masonry cracks.
ADVANTAGES / SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS:
- Effective, easy to use.
- Safely used by and for
the chemically sensitive.
- Low odor, non-offensive to
installer and occupant.
- Very low VOC content.
- Contains no formaldehyde.
PERFORMANCE
VALUES: Not-toxic, no
solvents, single component, good initial tack, water resistant,
high adhesion, excellent aging stability, wide use of area, bonds
to most substrates, more than 10% elongation, low shrinkage, may
be painted, clean with water.
SURFACE
PREPARATION: All
substrates to receive caulk and overlays must be sound, intact and
cleaned of any grease, oils, dust, dirt, wax, unsound prior caulk
and other foreign materials. Washing with a low odor, non toxic
cleaner like Safe Choice Super Clean is recommended.
Surface must be completely dry and stable prior to application.
APPLICATION: Always have adequate ventilation. Prior to
application, clean out all areas to receive caulking down to sound
substrate. Remove all dirt, dust, dried out fillers and powdery
residue. Blow out or wipe area to reveal a clean base. Adherent
surfaces should be dry. Application over wet contact faces may
result in lack of bond. Avoid damaged, contaminated substrates
including rotted wood. Old wood surfaces may require priming, but
permit no release compounds, waxed or mildewed surfaces.
Previously painted areas that are loose must be scraped clean and
metal surfaces should be rust free and de-oiled. Apply Safecoat
Caulking Compound directly from container with no dilution. Apply
with a pastry decorating bag or mortar joint filler. Install
firmly into opening and joints pressing to insure contact with
faces. Tool with knife or spatula to smooth and level the sealant surface. As required mask
surrounding area to prevent overlapping. Do not allow product to
cure on adjacent surfaces. Remove immediately by wiping. After
thorough drying out and total cure, caulked surface may be lightly
sanded to smoothness desired or to even with adjacent areas. Keep
container closed when not in use. Do not apply when temperature is
below 55 degrees F.
COVERAGE:
1/4" x 1/4" (6.4mm x 6.4mm) width depth cross section can be
filled at a rate of approximately 350 lineal feet per gallon.
CLEAN-UP:
Clean tools and equipment while still wet with Safe Choice Super Clean and warm water.
DRYING/CURING TIME: Under normal conditions, 24 hours for full cure. Normal
conditions include a clean, dry surface, access to fresh air flow,
a dust free environment, moderate humidity, and temperatures above
55 degrees F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other
than normal will cause Safecoat Caulking Compound to cure more
slowly.
LIMITATIONS:
Do not apply to substrate in direct sun or where hot to the touch
as this will cause excessively fast curing and prevent adhesion
into a wet, tacky base. Sample test a small area to assure proper
adhesion can be obtained. Unlike conventional caulks, Safecoat is
made without formaldehyde preservatives. Do not contaminate. Store
in airtight containers. Do not use when indoor or surface
temperature is below 55°F.
HEALTH PRECAUTIONS: As with all caulking compounds, keeping container tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not take internally. Always use adequate ventilation. If you are chemically sensitive, always test for personal tolerance.
LIMITED LIABILITY: Liability, whether express or implied, is limited
solely to replacement of product shown to be defective when applied in
accordance with instructions and shall under no circumstances include
liability for labor costs or consequential damages. It is the user’s
responsibility to determine the suitability and safety of the product
for its intended use. This limited warranty may not be modified or
extended by manufacturer’s representatives, distributors, or dealers of
AFM products.
We particularly recommend
that users always test in small inconspicuous areas before
application to the entire surface.
